Default MMORPG\'s - Help me start to get into one

I used to play Everquest like 3-4 years ago and stopped and I played it for like 3-4 hours the other day and was kinda bored. I am looking for a new MMORPG to play. What are the best ones available these days? I have heard that World of Warcraft, City of Heroes, and Star Wars Galaxies are all pretty good. Anyone have any opinion or insight into which MMORPG is the best to get?

I'd say World of Warcraft is a good one if you're not looking to start out with one that's relatively easy to learn, and doesn't take horrendous amounts of time to accomplish something. Anybody who's ever seriously played it know's that's a lie though. It sucks you in, and can be a serious time-sink.

My advice on the whole topic of MMORPG's is just not to play one.

Also, isn't this not the right forum for this?

Yeah bro, don't start. I am a recovering WoW addict who still has relapses.

It will eat your life away. Stick with poker.

Hmm.....maybe you should tack all of the possible MMORPG's onto a D-20, then roll the die 3 times and pick your favorite, take off your cloak of invisibility and ask your Dungeon Master if you can go outside instead of wandering through fantasy land with your electronic paladin buddies.

The one thing I hate about modern MMORPGs is that player interaction (read: griefing other players) is strictly limited.

Not that I'm a griefgamer, but I always played a thief in UO when it was still possible to steal from players (before some idiot woke up with the whole trammel/felucca [censored]). If you can do it in style this is far more than griefgaming. (Anyone ever heard of Galad or the LuTers?)

The same goes for PK'ing. Where's the fun if you're not in constant danger of being slaughtered? That's what made the games so much fun to begin with. These days it's all coming down to big bla bla, but not stepping up to it and/or muling. Extremely boring.

If you really need to get into a mmorpg WOW is the way to go, you can get a 10 day trial from their site and then just pay with a credit card if you like it.

But like others have said you should probably just avoid them altogether. Get into oblivion or spend the time playing online poker. Its funny when my friends brag about how many epics they have. Its like if they spent that much time playing online poker they'd be making 10K a month minimum instead of 1K Gold a month.
