Tough river decision vs Mr. DonButtons
Villain is the one and only Donbuttons. For those of you who don't know he is a very good primarily midstakes player who plays a lot of tables. I've talked to him on AIM recently and we both know each other's SNs. He is just getting back into the grind recently and is playing a lot tighter preflop than he used to, in the 17/14 range over 5k hands. This is the first time I've played with him in over a year.
Anyways, we're both playing very solidly and haven't really tangled to this point. Party Poker No Limit Hold'em Cash Game $2/$4 Blinds 5 Players - (LegoPoker Hand History Converter) SB: $787.00 Hero (BB): $631.00 UTG: $632.20 CO: $386.00 BTN: $52.50 Preflop: Hero is dealt Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 Players) UTG folds, CO raises to $12.00, 2 folds, Hero calls $8.00 Flop: ($26) Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 Players) Hero checks, CO checks Turn: ($26) 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 Players) Hero bets $20.00, CO raises to $60.00, Hero calls $40.00 River: ($146) 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 Players) Hero checks, CO bets $120.00, Hero ??? |

Re: Tough river decision vs Mr. DonButtons
Can't see any good player check a decent pair>set on that flop. KT or 44 are the hands I'd worry about. Probably fold cos it's too wierd a line for a total bluff.

Re: Tough river decision vs Mr. DonButtons
I really don't understand the flop check. The only hand that even comes to mind that plays kind of like this is 9T (fearing a c/r on flop, and not wanting to get it in), and 44 (for obv reasons).
But doesn't he freaking bet 9T on the flop? I'm thinking he could show up with some sort of clubdraw here. |

wow id never fold this [/ QUOTE ] Are you calling with TJ too then? Normally against a mediocre tag I'd say this is a pretty easy call, as they aren't repping anything and aren't really trying to. It's wierd though against a very good player like DB. He knows his line doesn't make a lot of sense, and I'm sure he expects me to snapcall with KQ. And if I call with KQ I really should be calling with anything reasonable, right? There should be no difference between J9 here and KQ, am I right? I think this is a really close decision, but for the reason that you aren't considering folding this can be a case for folding against some players, do you agree? I just don't know if DB is going to play air this way when he knows his hand looks exactly like what it is. I'm not sure how he views my game, but I would assume he thinks I'm very capable of making this call with a lot less than KQ given the action. |
