I live with my girlfriend and two roommates in a OK sized 3 bedroom house. We all know a lot of people in small-time punk bands (we also know a handful of people in stuff people on 2p2 might now), so it's rather common for us to have a people staying in our house for a night while they're on tour. Not too often, but once every month or so.
Two nights ago, my roommate failed to tell us about a band(s?) that he told could stay here. They showed up at 1 in the morning with something around 8 or 9 people. These are all smelly punk kids, and while I have a higher tolerance for such things than the average 2p2er, it was a little much for me. I mentioned something to my roommate, and I let him know it wasn't cool. Now, here's the issue. My cat is FIV+, which is simply the feline version of HIV (although there are differences). I've overheard one of the guests making jokes about my cat, along the lines of: (cat meows) "Oh, sorry AIDS cat, we haven't found you a cure." Now, this bothers me when people I know personally do it, but I always let it slide the first time. I've never had an issue with people continually doing it. This dude has said it a few times, and I'm about to go off on him if he does it again. If you don't have a pet, I understand why this would seem like an overreaction, but this to me would be akin to telling my down syndrome son that he'll never be normal. I wouldn't yell at the guy, but I'd make some sort of comment/statement to humiliate him in front of everyone for being so insensitive. So, is this out of line or should I just keep my mouth shut until they leave (hopefully today)? |

If they leave today, it's not a big deal. But if they are staying then yea say something. BTW, how did your cat get sick? I've never heard of anything like that.

[/ QUOTE ] Most cats get it from fighting or [censored]. He followed us home as a stray, and we kept him as an indoor/outdoor cat until we found out he was FIV+. So we have no idea how long he's had it. An interesting note is that there's a vaccination for FIV, and that it comes up as positive on a FIV test. When the vet scanned for a microchip (he had one), it had information of him being from a shelter in Indianapolis. So, there's a very small chance he's not FIV+, but rather was vaccinated. |

I think you should tell him to shut the [censored] up. People staying at your house for free should keep their mouths shut.

I'm not saying you're wrong to be offended, but different people have different tolerances. These guys are guests but I assume that as far as they know it was cool to stay at your place since they got permission from their roomate. I'd give the guy the benefit of the doubt and tell him to stop before going to the next level and trying to humiliate him. |
