How is the bible belt justified
I just dont understand how the bible belt states get away with some of the things they do with the seperation of church and state and all.

Its because for every bible thumping politician that wants to put a 20 foot cross on the front lawn, you have to file a new lawsuit to get it taken down. You have to find a plaintiff who doesn't mind getting dirty looks and a lawyer who is willing to work for next to nothing. But when you get these, the federal courts are pretty good at enforcing the law.

speaking from experience, i think the answer is closer to the fact that a lot of people in these states are pretty religious and pretty much agree with a lot of those religious things being done in their name. and even if they're not the majority in a state, the very religious people are organized very well and are vocal and monied and throw their weight around more than say a representative group of moderates. i mean you can see that on the national stage as the republican party has been sort of co-opted by the religious movement.

Sometimes crappy, no-thought, no-content posts generate good, well thought out, high content replies. If you're wondering how this might happen, see the two posts above yours. This isn't OOT and there is no overwhelming need to cull "clutter", especially when the clutter is turning into something good.

Rarely. If you're wondering how this might happen, see the two posts above yours. Ha. This isn't OOT and there is no overwhelming need to cull "clutter", especially when the clutter is turning into something good. There's a need to cull crap. There's a huge need to cull crap, and your failure to do that in a consistent manner hurts this forum. If you're not seeing that cause church and state makes you all hot and bothered in your hippy pants, then that sucks for the rest of us who'd like a well-run place to talk politics at 2+2.

Someone rephrase the OP for us foreign euro scum.
Is this related to stuff like that chief judge in some state who wanted to have the ten commandments displayed in the courthouse? I only know of that from catching it on a Colbert Report or Daily Show clip.
