Running Scared Freddy Kreuger silhouette
Ok. I'm watching this really odd movie when I get to this random part in this pedophile's appartment with the kid in the bathroom. In the background, we see an unmistakable shadow of Freddy Kreuger. Anyone who has seen this movie or knows anything about it want to explain this to me?
Edit: the movie I'm discussing is called Running Scared. |

Re: Running Scared Freddy Kreuger silhouette
It's supposed to be a reinterpretation of Hansel and Gretel. The shadows are supposed to be creepy and folk-lore-y.
EDIT: Maybe reinterpretation isn't the best word...Modernized retelling? |

Re: Running Scared Freddy Kreuger silhouette
That sounds like a bad interpretation. It's a distinct shadow of Freddy Kreuger. Other than that, I see no semblance to Hansel and Gretel whatsoever.

Re: Running Scared Freddy Kreuger silhouette
I believe it's just meant to be Oleg perceiving the pedophiles as monsters.

Re: Running Scared Freddy Kreuger silhouette
The pedophile scene was definiately influenced by Hansel and Gretel. There are references to other Grimm fairy tails throughout the movie also.

Re: Running Scared Freddy Kreuger silhouette
My Running Scared review thread in OOT:
http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...Number=6105989 From that thread:, spoilerific so in white The entire plot is basically written as a fairy tale, a retelling of the Brothers Grimm. Immediately before the credits crash, you are treated to a quick depiction of the plot and parallels to fantasy characters from fairy tales. As such, its a great movie: i.e. the fairy tale gimmick works well beyond the movie: when you realize, as the credits roll, and exactly what was going on is explicitly spelled out, it makes the movie work on a second level. Its definitely not a shadow of Freddy Kreuger - its just a monsterous figure with long claws - Freddy is really just another archetype of that sort of monster, its certainly not meant to be him specifically. But yeah I can very much see where your mind would immediately jump to Nightmare on Elm Street, mine did too... |

Re: Running Scared Freddy Kreuger silhouette
How can you discuss Running Scared without mentioning the brilliance of the guy who played the Duke? Or Pimp Lester?
I might go so far as to say I had more fun watching this film in the theater than I have any other film in my life. |
