Preflop Chart
Can you beat low small stakes games adhering strictly to a preflop chart regarding positionally what hands to play, betting when you hit the flop (draw or high/middle pair), and folding if you dont? (Even if you make minor mistakes with potodds and reads)

Re: Preflop Chart
Of course not.
The game is not restricted to preflop play and betting or folding on the flop. What if someone else raises or comes out betting themselves? What is your play on subsequent streets? What are your bet sizes on every street? How much do you raise preflop in which situations? Why this question anyway? Planning on building a bot but don't have enough knowledge for implementing proper AI? |

Re: Preflop Chart
B&M small stakes? Absolutely*. Online small stakes? Probably not.
*This assumes a reasonable rake structure, and that you run fairly well. |

Re: Preflop Chart
Maybe 2 years ago you could. In the past the games were much more loose passive...so I mean that you'd get 4 or 5 players seeing the flop and it would rarely be raised preflop. Nowadays the games are much tighter and virtually every hand is being raised preflop and even micro limit players understand position nowadays. I see way more blind stealing now than when I started playing as an example. So no you can not blindly follow a chart now...you would likely be way to tight and players would notice this.
My PokerTracker database confirms these things as the games nowadays have stats like vpip 28 and pfr 8 whereas in the past it would be 35/5 or something like that... |

Re: Preflop Chart
If you have to read a chart to decide whether or not to play, you won't be able to play postflop with only minor mistakes.

If you have to read a chart to decide whether or not to play, you won't be able to play postflop with only minor mistakes. [/ QUOTE ] Very true. However, if your profit comes from making fewer mistakes than your opponents and they make the same mistakes post-flop but more preflop, then you will profit if your pre-flop choices are better than theirs. Will you make enough? Quien sabe? Who knows? You won't make enough to cover your expenses--rake, tips, and gas money. Starting hand charts are great for those starting out and are playing B&M low limits. Better than none. Just remember it's only a starting place, and you need to get over it ASAP. Does anyone still play online? |
