Large buy-in Poker Tournaments to Downsize... (I predict)...
After hearing about this, the first thing that came to my mind besides cash out is... The large buy in tournaments are going to begin to downsize considerably now...
No more multi stage $6 buy in tournaments to win a $10K seat after sitting through different stages... For a brick casino to run a multi stage tournament is much more... $140 buy in gets you into a stage 2 buy in and win that you get your $10K seat... Multi Table Super Satellites are still looking at $100+ buy in and only 1 out of ever hundred people get a seat... The WSOP main event will be back at 2004 buy in numbers I think... So in a way, this is affecting the American casinos and American companies like the WPT... What do you all think? 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] |

Re: Large buy-in Poker Tournaments to Downsize... (I predict)...
I'm wondering how this will affect Poker Stars and their FPP program.. right now they allow you to use those points to buy into big, live tournaments like the WSOP... Does this mean that because those points are earned by playing games for cash are they going to have to stop that??

The only way you can earn the points is with real money... When the online sites buy into the tournements for you... they pay the fee which goes to the house and a percentage to the dealers / tournament staff... |

The WSOP main event will be back at 2003 buy in numbers I think... [/ QUOTE ] So your prediction is that next year's WSOP ME will have about 839 players enter? I'll happily take the over on that prediction. |

This was something I was thinking too. We've definitely seen the largest WSOP in 2006. It will be much smaller next year.

I thought I heard or read somewhere the percentage of people who got into the main event through satelites. Anyone know what the % was? I remember thinking it was huge.
I think the OP makes a very safe prediction. I think this will go far beyond downsizing. A lot of the smaller tournaments rely heavily on the sponsorship of the online sites. The sponsorship will no doubt be pulled and I'm sure a lot of the touneys will be shut down. |
