Default hand vs. mntbkr

4 handed. Mntbkr raises otb, sb calls, I 3 bet JJ in bb, mntbkr caps, we call.

Flop J64 rainbow. Checked to mntbkr who bets, sb raises. I decide he will be able to get away from AK if i 3 bet, but if he has an overpair then i am losing value because he'll cap (or call and raise turn) and my hand will still be disguised.

I just call, mntbkr 3 bets, sb calls. I think about some lame cap here, but then decide that mntbkr will bet 99.99% of turn cards, and I just call.

Turn is Tc putting two clubs. Checked to mntbkr, he bets, sb calls, I raise.

Main point of discussion, imo: 3 bet flop or no?

Whatever you do, don't call/cap the flop against anyone who can read hands.

This one is going to be close as far as the flop goes, but with the SB hanging in there a turn checkraise is pretty sweet. I am a big street whore though.

I don't know how mntbkr plays, but 3 betting this flop with AK is pretty bad after you checkraise into his cap so I think he has a real hand and bets the turn like you said.

re: how he plays

if his hand were face up, I would either bet out the flop or check 3bet if I knew he has an overpair. He will put me on AJ and 3 bets will go in on the turn.

presence of sb does change things thogh

The hand entirely depends on how mnt's been playing lately. I've seen him fold to a check-3bet on this flop and I've seen him cap KQ. BTW, I know it's an odd line, but I think you should lead the turn.

wiht the sb in i don't think i've ever seen mntbkr cap a hand like KQ here even when tilting.

He was not tilting at th etime.

I've seen mnt cap openenders on the turn 3-ways vs two preflop cappers on a KTxx board at 25/50 when he's tilting. Just FWIW. I had positions reversed when I suggested leading the turn (thought you were SB). Your play is fine if you say he wasn't tilting, though honestly you better be sure of that as you're missing out on a lot of bets when he is tilting, and he's been doing that a lot lately.

i like how you played it. id say a good player should be able to get away from an overpair on the turn but no one does.

George,

nicely played. Echoing what CDC and Vic said, I'll offer 20-1 that Bkr folded an overpair here.*

Dean

*Bets not accepted from Bikr or his associates.
