Default 1/2 NL - Advice on how to play hand

I was playing 1/2 NL, bought in for $80 and up to $240 after 2 hours. I had a very bad session prior so I started with a short stack to tighten my play. the other big stack (villian) had close to $400 - he seemed like a solid player but a little loose for my taste.

I have J10s on button, villain in middle position makes it $10 and i call - 4 players in the pot. Flop comes 10 9 4 rainbow. Two players check, villain bets$27 i fold. everyone folds and villain wins the pot.

I had seen the villian make straights with questionable hands. once he had 58 and another time 10 7. I thought he might have been on another draw but knew if i raised he could go over the top, or smooth call and i would be in trouble. he was the only player who had me covered, so i took the cowards way out and decided to avoid him all together - why risk money against good player when others are total fish?

Any advice on how i should have played the hand? raise - call. I feel i made a mistake by folding.

live stack poker sucks. is villain capable of firing air into 4-players? if so, i'd probably just call the flop bet.

definitely don't raise, I'd probably call but I think folding is fine here too.
