Crap hands in stud 8.
The game is stud-8. Say everyone folds to you and you are the last person to act before the bring-in.
You have something like Ac9c2s. The bring-in has say 6h. What do you do if this is a full game (i.e. 8 antes in the pot). What do you do if this is a headsup match? Also in either scenario if you complete, how do you feel about calling a raise? |

Re: Crap hands in stud 8.
I'd raise just to try a steal if nothing else. But I wouldn't get into a raising war either.

Re: Crap hands in stud 8.
What card is your door card? Is this a 10-20 structure or 30-60 structure? How does your opponent play? How is the game playing? I would like your hand a lot more if your deuce was another club.
If this was a HU match it is an insta-complete I would feel very bad about calling a raise if I was popped back. In general however - I usually fold here if our hand is A9(2). There are other marginal type hands that are better to 'steal' with. |

Re: Crap hands in stud 8.
If your ace is your door, easy raise. Obviously your deuce is not your door. If your 9 is your door, easy fold. This goes for headsup and full game IMHO. If you raise your A door and get reraised, I think it's a fold unless the player is quite bad.

Re: Crap hands in stud 8.
I see your reasoning here but I still don't feel comfortable folding with the 9 up if the game is 3-way or more. The reason is by my calculation the bring-in will only have a playable hand 49% of the time (playable = pair, trips, 3 low, 3 flush). I guess he might add in hands like A+face+baby but even so it feels to me like it's profitable to complete here, since as long as he just calls we'll still probably get to steal if we catch low and he bricks on 4th. |

Re: Crap hands in stud 8.
The bring-in may have a playable hand only x% of the time, but you have a Nine in the door 100% of the time. There's no reason to get involved. With the Ace up, complete and fold to a raise. With the Deuce up, the Six isn't the bring-in.
