Default Is FTP really that slow?

I multi 4-5 sngs and I just moved to FTP, but when i get to about 4 or 5 tables the game really lags. It just kinda freezes when a new table opens or when i try to open the hand history. I end up missing hands and bets due to sit outs. I have done 4-10 on stars and that was fine, but FTP no way. I have the background set to midnight and I have 3GB of ram with a duel core processor....

Is this just the way FTP is? or is it my graphics card? or is there a setting I can change to make it run faster? (sorry if this is a repost. I did do search and didn't come up with much) Wyo
