Why not just fold the flop?

well i can't imagine you're really very good at poker then.

or maybe you just fundamentally don't understand certain concepts and know others well enough to get by...

poker is a game of information. sometimes you can get just as information from them betting a blank as you can from a scare card rolling off and them betting. it isn't like you have to call the flop because you know you're ahead and when you hit trips that's it... on this board, if you were no good on the flop you're still no good. it's very possible you call the flop knowing he will not fire a second barrel almost ever, so you can safely fold to a turn blank. that's just using the information you have available to you and a perfectly viable plan.

people don't check the next street after checkraising often enough to justify calling a checkraise and then folding the next street (unless for some reason the turn card scares us). it's lighting money on fire.

in this case, the turn card makes it less likely that he holds an ace with a better kicker, and also greatly improves our equity against all better hands. if we thought he had air on the flop often enough to warrant a call, then we are in even better shape now than we were then.

btw, I think the first two streets were gross, and I'd never be faced with this turn decision, but had I gotten there it would be because I had the best hand often enough to continue calling down.
