What to do with ATs preflop
preflop utg+1 raises in 6max, you have ATs on button
utg+1 is avg abc tag, slight winner. BB is fish |

Re: What to do with ATs preflop
I would usually 3-bet ATo in this spot. It's a marginal situation.

Re: What to do with ATs preflop
I like a 3bet here, but I will adjust here based on:
1) how easily he releases on the flop or turn, as well as wtsd%. 2) my image - how much I have been raising and what hands I have shown down, 3) how light I have seen him raise here before, 4) some other factors I can't think of now. If he is really tight and showdown bound, I just fold and hope there are better players at the table to 3bet. If there aren't such players, I find a new table. |

Re: What to do with ATs preflop
agree with everything TonyDanza says. I think I am usually folding A9s here and 3 betting ATs most of the time.

Re: What to do with ATs preflop
Just got from reading one marginal question and then see this. What does it matter?
Seriously, AT is a classic no-value hand that has been said by Skalansky some hundred years ago, and from T.J. we know that the hand being suited should be a no-factor when it comes to figuring if one should play the hand, though he gives some extra value to AJs, AQs and maybe ATs. But basically AT/ATs should never be played when there is enough doubt as they don't have enough value even if they do happen to flop a hand. |

Re: What to do with ATs preflop
Maybe I'm misunderstanding you but if the ev of ATs in this situation is exactly zero then I would suspect you should be playing it everytime rather than never.

If ATs on its own has zero EV, then 3betting it here will, at a minimum increase our expectation on our bigger hands. This is especially true against a TAG villain, who will assign us a larger 3betting range. |
