Farf\'s Crossfit(+general health) log
I have made the decision to start the Crossfit program as part of my goal to be generally healthier.
There are several reasons why I chose Crossfit over other programs: 1) I used to be a muscle-head and purely lifted heavy weights. I hated my bulky look and clothes never fit right. I got more women when I started getting out of shape than when I was muscular. Crossfit seems like a great way to be strong in the ways I want but still look trim and fit. 2) I like the variety. 3) I have confidence that the program will bring me results. To be honest I think weightlifting has passed me by. Back when I lifted I had a lot of confidence in the program I used. Looking through this forum and the internet I could not find a routine I could put my faith in. Now everyone has these goofy programs and these crazy diets. 4) Simplicity Start stats: Age: 25 Height: 5'9" Weight: 200 Pic: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92...5/100_0080.jpg (linked for the squeamish & insecure) I don't really have a fitness goal as of yet besides having a general decrease in weight while having an increase in my cardiovascular ability. Along with my general strength and conditioning goals I have some general health goals: 1)Quitting Smoking I am going on three days without having a cigarette. This is really tough. I about put my fist through the wall at some very minor annoyances. My thoughts have been generally very disorganized and I have a constant uncomfortable feeling. I hope this passes soon 2) Eating right I'm pretty much just winging it on my diet. I don't have a set plan just a general goal to stop eating so much pizza and fried food while eating much more fruits and veggies. I think a solid start goal is two salads a week. I think a diet is pretty worthless if you can't stick to it over the lond run so flexibility and tolerability is very important. I start tomorrow with five sets of: 50 squats 100 jump ropes |

just curious what you consider to be goofy programs?
In order to not screw up your new diet habits, always have fruits and veggies immediately available. Any crap that you don't want to eat should be removed as well. |

I think crossfit is an awesome program, and I am more then intrigued myself. But they are too quick to shoot down other solid programs.(with an exception being starting strength.) Your statement here, reminds me of the testimonial page on the crossfit forum. |

Re: Farf\'s Crossfit(+general health) log
Crossfit is great for general stamina and functional strength, but like Efourdee said, there is a lot of merit to lifting heavy [censored].

I don't understand how everyone assumes lifting heavy stuff makes you "bulky". If I'm not mistaken, using crossfit you also lift a lot of heavy [censored]. Just less often.

Re: Farf\'s Crossfit(+general health) log
Good luck with quitting smoking and changing your diet. Keep trying to take small steps forward with the diet and fitness stuff. Take it slow, you've got a long time to get there. Keep a log so you can chart your progress and develop your goals -- this is one of the key value adds of crossfit is how well it enables/encourages measurement.
