Limit Holdem in AC
I've been playing poker for a year, and I've been playing NL for pretty much most of that time, never getting beyond the online micro limit and the Miller's book in FL. Recently I decided to have another go at the limit online, and I wonder what the reality is like in B&M. I have a couple of questions:
1) Which limit game plays as large as a 1/2 NL game? My guess would be about 6/12 based on typical buyins, but I don't really know how limit works live. 2) Which AC casino is the best for limit games? 3) Would I be able to hold my own at 6/12 or 10/20 games, or do you need to be an experienced player to have an edge in those games? For comparison, I think I'm a moderately to high winning player at 1/2 NL, although it's really hard to gauge with only 200 hours of live play. I appreciate any insight offered by the B&M veterans. |

Re: Limit Holdem in AC
1. Probably around a 5/10 limit game plays as large as 1/2, of course if it is an aggressive game, it may play higher than that.
2. Borgata and Taj spread 2/4, 3/6, 5/10, 10/20, and 20/40 limit games (Borgata spreads 40/80 and up as well). Other casinos will typically spread a 2/4 limit game but that is all you can count on as far as limit games. 3. I don't know how well you play limit. There are certain adjustments you have to make. However, if you are a competent player, you will be better than most of your competition at 5/10 and 10/20 limit. |

Re: Limit Holdem in AC
1. Well if you base it on the size of a standard pre-flop or post flop raise/bet in NL, I'd def agree 5/10 limit is very close in terms of stakes.
2. Almost all of the AC cardrooms spread 2/4 limit, 75% of them spread 3/6, and only Trop, Borgata, and Taj regularly have limits above that. I really like Harrah's for limit because generally the people are there to have a good time (which means juicy games and good for learning exp.) 3. I play limit almost exclusively, and I play a lot at Harrahs and the Taj, and limit and NL are just such diffrent worlds, that you should try lower limits first and move up the same way you would start at 1/2 NL and move up. A typical 2/4 game in AC casinos people buy in from 30 to 100 bucks, so your not risking your roll on trying it out at a low limit. |

Re: Limit Holdem in AC
Thanks for all the comments so far. I know that limit is very different from NL, which is why I want to change my pace a little. From what I understand so far, fixed limit is more about evaluating your equity in marginal situations, while NL is more about finding and avoiding laying implied odds.

Re: Limit Holdem in AC
The trop has the often mentioned pink chip game (7.50/15) as well. Very popular and there appears to always be one of these games going on over the weekend. Can't speak for weekdays.
