NYT article on March Madness in Vegas

I know najdorf regularly goes and thinks it's pretty awesome.
This article doesn't put it in a terribly favorable light imo.

Bunch of guys camping out for seats in the front row to watch the game ON TELEVISION and also not showering for days, etc etc.

am I crazy or does this really not sound like such a great time?
normally I would also complain about probably not being able to hear the announcers part of the time which is why I don't like watching games in sports-bars typically either.
But with CBS, the announcers getting drowned-out by screaming fans would be an improvement.


Still, if I find myself in LV during March Madness for some reason I don't think I would be attracted to camping out at the sports-books for hours on end. Think I would find something else to do.

I'm guessing the poker games might be half-decent though from drunk guys winning $3k on Winthrop or something and taking it to the tables.

If you like college basketball and enjoy placing a wager on a game, you can't beat this weekend. Not showering for a couple days and getting no sleep????????? In Vegas??????? Unheard of.

Now I haven't read the article yet. I would advise planning ahead on where to watch the games so you don't have to camp out overnight.

Just returned from my 13th consecutive year in Vegas for March Madness. Already trying to plan for next year.

Poker was OK in my 3 attempts (Caesar's on Fri night & Sun afternoon, Bellagio on Sat night). I play mostly 1-2 or 2-5NL and was surprised at the dead games on a Fri night at Caesar's. Most stacks were short and in 6 hours I saw limited action.

I do like college basketball and do enjoy placing wagers on the games.

i agree it did not sound like much fun to me. i hate crowds.

i think a lot of these guys don't gamble on a regular basis like we do, so the gambling aspect is what makes it really fun, not the watching basketball part.

except I actually do like crowds okay in the right situation.

Have been to mardi grad in New Orleans maybe 7 or 8 times and always have had a freaking blast.

I can't fully explain why I'm fine with that crowd but think the Sports-book March Madness crowd sounds so unappealing to me.
Top reasons are that I love New Orleans...and Mardi Gras isn't a guys-only deal whereas my impression of the sportsbook-at-madness time is that it is.

It's not just that though I don't think.

Things are crowded. Large part of enjoyment is the group (10+ people each year) that I go out with. If one of us hasn't done/said something funny or stupid within a 15 minute period it's a shock.

There are very few females to be found. I'm also not a regular sportsbettor (did some NCAAFB this past season), just don't have the time. Save all energy for opening NCAAB weekend. Finding arbs, middles, etc. isn't something I take the time to do.

I thought article captures the event pretty well. Except most of the people in our group shower daily.

I'd rather relax on my couch in front of an HD big screen, with multiple books at my fingertips.

The only downside is not seeing every game. But, I guess I can live with that, especially with MMOD getting better and better.

Pretty sure the good thing about being at a real sportsbook is that you can watch all four games at once, which is really appealing when you may have bets on all of them. I don't think I could see myself waiting around to hold a seat though. It's annoying enough fighting for a seat at a Vegas sportsbook on a typical football weekend.
