Help a Newbie with some Hands....
Hiya, I've been studying a bit of tournament play, but can't seem to reliably cash. A couple of weeks ago I turned a $6 satellite into $1200, so now I have some flexibility and the bankroll to try more "good" play rather than "please I hope I cash" play, and have moved from 2-table S&Gs to mostly 90-player doublestack S&Gs (all Full Tilt). Anyway, I'd like some feedback on some typical situations for me, four hands taken from various tournaments. Obviously results can be inferred, but try to think past that. Thanks in advance for any feedback and advice! *** HAND 1 *** Blinds: $20/$40 9 players Converter Stack sizes: UTG: $3750 UTG+1: $6470 MP1: $3000 MP2: $4335 MP3: $1770 CO: $2955 Button: $3455 SB: $2075 Hero: $2505 Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is BB with A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 3 folds, MP2 raises to $140, 4 folds, Hero calls. Re: Help a Newbie with some Hands....
What buy-in was this?
Hand1: I probably wouldn't have gotten fancy preflop here: Just repop him big. I'd make it something like t450. As played , I like the CR on the flop. Push the turn. Hand2: The blinds are big enough at this point to just raise 3bbs. Make it t360 preflop. Especially considering your stack, you should me making a very small raise here. I even think t300 would be OK given your stack size. As played, tough spot on the flop. You have created a huge pot, and a c-bet will commit you. Either check/fold or CRAI. I think I would just check/fold the turn, and go into push/fold mode. Hand3: Again you made it too much preflop. Raise to t300 here. Flop is fine. We are going to the felt here, I hope you understand that. If CO is the kind of player to play back at you, then I love the turn check. If he isn't just bet again. I think I would have bet the river here. As played, just call. I don't think a bet is worth it, because his bet is often a retarded bluff. Hand4: The stacks of the limpers are too big to push here. They will look you up a lot. Wait a couple of hands, and wait for first in vigorish and a decent hand. |

Re: Help a Newbie with some Hands....
hand 1. Flat call preflop is OK, but so is reraising. Push the turn.
hand 2. Given stack sizes, raise 2-2.5xBB preflop. As played, you re pot committed, so bet more on flop. hand 3. Preflop and flop are standard. You could bet the turn. Check isn't terrible. As played, close between pushing and calling on the river. hand 4. Push is good. If you get called, you may not be in bad shape and you have good pot odds. I would be a little concerned that the first limper was UTG. |

Re: Help a Newbie with some Hands....
Hand 1: Bet about 800 or 900 and get the rest in on river. The pot has got way too big relative to your stack to possibly get away from this. If he can beat AA then you're going broke.
Hand 2: I'm giving up here and check-folding. You don't have enough chips to put pressure on the button and there's no way he's going to believe that 8 helped you if you push. Hand 3: Insta-call Hand 4: I can fold this - a limp costs a significant chunk of your chips and you have trash. Raising dangerous with the UTG limper. |

Re: Help a Newbie with some Hands....
Hand 1 you should shove, tho you really need to repop AA preflop in a low buy in tournament.
Hand 2 I prefer a fold preflop w/ your stack. On the flop you need to shove w/ stacks this shallow. Hand 3 bet the turn most of the time, tho checking is ok sometimes. Def prefer betting the river tho, as he is very likely to check behind w/ a weaker ace or smaller pair. As played, very easy call. Last hand, shove. |

Re: Help a Newbie with some Hands....
