Wireless router making download speeds slow

I hooked up a linksys wireless router yesterday and its making my download speeds really slow thru a newsgroup site. I disconected it and used just my modem and my speeds where back to normal. What can i do to fix the problem. Could it have to do with ports?

your wireless router is almost always going to be subject to more interference and slower speeds than a wired connection.

having your PC physically closer to your router may help to reduce this problem.
