Re: mathematics of poker publishing question
Near the very beginning of MOP there is a discussion about how Bill Chen and Chuck Weinstock discussed this project several years ago as a possibility so it was natural that when it came together that the book was published by the publisher who showed interest originally.

Re: mathematics of poker publishing question
[ QUOTE ]
...please educate me as to what are "ARG" and "ATLARGE"? [/ QUOTE ] ARG comes from the first ARG event, BARGE. BARGE stands for Big August Rec Gambling Excursion, and is held annually in August in Las Vegas. (IMHO, it's the most fun a poker player can have.) From this, several regional ARG events have formed, including ATLARGE (held in Atlantic City, usually the first weekend of March), FARGO (held at Foxwoods in September or October), and ESCARGOT (next week at the Bike in L.A.). If you live near one of these events, or have the ability to travel to one of them, they are well worth your time. -- Russ Fox ----------- co-author, "Why You Lose at Poker" |

Re: mathematics of poker publishing question
From page vii:
A book called The Mathematics of Poker was conceived by Bill, Chuck Weinstock, and Andrew Latto several years ago, before Jerrod and Bill had even met. That book was set to be a fairly formal, textbook-like approach to discussing the mathematical aspects of the game. A few years later, Jerrod and Bill had begun to collaborate on solving some poker games and the idea resurfaced as a book that was less like a mathematics paper and more accessible to readers with a modest mathematical background. |
