Pocket Aces on a jack high flop?
I posted a question a few minutes ago on a AJs hand. Im trying to improve my game. I seem to be zigging when I should be zagging and Id like some help.
About the 20th hand of a $10 buy in tournament Im dealt AA on the button. I have about 2100 chips. Middle position guy with around 1400 makes it 120 and I raised it to 300. Small blind calls and so does the original raiser. Small blind has around 3200 chips. The flop comes J, 6, 4 rainbow. Its checked to me and I bet 500. Small blind calls and the other guy folds. Turn is an 8 and I went all in. Can anyone please comment on the hand? Was my betting incorrect? If so, what should I have done? Thanks, -Steve |

Re: Pocket Aces on a jack high flop?
Seems standard to me
Assuming the SB checked to you. |

Re: Pocket Aces on a jack high flop?
Not incorrect. You want a smaller pair coming along and if he hit a set you are going to go broke there.

Re: Pocket Aces on a jack high flop?
I think you played this right. I may have raised more preflop (to ~350-400) and then bet 600-800 on flop. The turn push is not a bad play. There are already a lot of chips in the pot and it will be hard to get away from this hand.

I don't really think there's any kind of bet on the turn that doesn't committ you anyway, so might as well push. I wouldn't be surprised to see AJ a lot of the time here, I doubt you're beat. |

Try not to let your opponents flop sets when you have an overpairs.

RESULTS.....and thank you.
The big blind called and showed pocket jacks for a flopped set and I was gone.
I guess my question is if after he called my flop bet, should I have suspected a set or 2 pair and slowed down? I dont feel I could have gotten away from this hand. Thanks again to all that answered, -Steve |
