Passenger Ramps - NYC woes c\'t\'d
So I called the cops to report my truck stolen today. I was actually very happy that it appeared to have been stolen because it's insured for more than I can sell it for. Unfortunately the cops got there and told me it had almost certainly been towed.
I was parked in a spot along Bennett Ave that is constantly used. My realtor had me park here when I saw my apartment. But apparently there is a ramp for crippled people (meaning like a 1/2 inch dip in the curb) and I'm not allowed to park there. No markings, nothing to indicate that it can't be used. Now I have to pay a $185 impound fee and a $165 ticket for parking there. And I have to deal with some greasy sweat-thug down at the impound lot who mocked me for not knowing what a pedestrian ramp was. I told the officers that I wanted to report aggravated assault in advance for around 10 AM tomorrow at the 203rd street impound lot. If anyone wants to come watch feel free. WTF New York, god I hate cities. NT |

I think the rule in NYC is that if you do find an open parking spot, it's probably open for a reason.

[/ QUOTE ] Yes this spot is a double whammy, I was parked in pretty much the same place when my truck got broken into last week Actually there were a number of open spots on this street at this time, it was right after street cleaning... unfortunately I picked the one reserved for cripple wheelchair access (after they roll down the 20 foot cliffs at Fort Tryon park or up a steep-ass hill in a crappy neighborhood where crippled people would never survive anyway) NT |

I should own a wing at the DMV for parking tickets I've dealt with
In any case, there are "street laws" your suppose to obey, like no parking in a hydrant, there’s never a sign in front of them its just "known" you shouldn't park there. They do the same thing with this. Like you can’t park on a corner where one of these "dips" is for the same reason (I found out the same way you did) not paying the ticket will rack up the late fee, when the fee gets over 200 and you don't pay they put a judgment out on the ticket. When they do that it’s off to tow town again with you (and they WILL come to your house). <Found this out the hard way> PS don't leave weed in the car if you’re in danger of getting towed... |
