Raise now, Dude, and the reasons should be obvious: a card can come on the river to scare him into checking, costing you action; raising now allows him to 3-bet a set or aces up; if he folds now then he was possibly check-folding the river anyway; if the board pairs on the river and you still raise, what are you doing against a 3-bet, etc....
