Phil Laak is looking a little worse for wear in this session, having been up very late the night before trying to figure out what went wrong, after the pro team lost on day one. Nevertheless, he managed to win considerably more than
Ali Eslami lost on the opposite side of the cards, and the humans drew even in the match: one win, one loss, and one statistical draw.
The UofA computer team used a learning system in this session, but our "Coach" program turned out to have a serious bug. As a result, one bot played a large majority of hands against Phil, and a different bot played most of the hands against Ali. The differing styles of all four players increased the variance (random luck element) to well beyond the levels we would have liked. Hindsight analysis suggests that the bots probably played a little better, but the humans won the majority of the big swing hands.
