Gas. Seriously.

The stuff is dug up half way around the world, refined somewhat, put into a ship, transported a few thousand miles, dropped off in Houston, refined some more, to the point where this once greasy black rock is now clearish.

Then, the ship it to your part of the country, dump it into a tank in the ground, have a pump system to deliver it to your car's gas tank.

All of this for less than the price of bottled water. There's more water, closer to home, requiring less refining. But gas is still cheaper.

Amazing, really.

And this stuff will take a 3,000 lb car up a mountain in the middle of summer, keep the passengers cooled with AC, all for a couple bucks.

It should be much more expensive.
