Re: the purpose of optimism
Its not so much being optimistic / pessimistic that matters, but rather how you let it effect you.
Generally speaking if you're one or the other, but can play calmly and rationally either way, it will make no difference.
If you really let it get to you, and you're optimistic you will generally be in a better happy frame of mind to play, and make decision correctly. If you're pessimistic and you let it get it too you, I imagine you would be more prone to tilt and making bad calls, etc, because your head is in the wrong place.
