Now as to #1, this is usually heard about flop and post-flop play but sometimes pre-flop. There are many reasons to continue play or chase. Pot odds, implied odds, outs, etc as well as playing the player. This statement cracks me up when uttered. Not only are there the reasons just stated to call or continue play in a hand but there are two more cards to come. All five cards on the board count, not just the cards when you bet. There are many reasons to play, but I think many individuals do not comprehend this when they lose. And this comes from some good players who are regular winners.

#2 again like #1 there could be many reasons. We have been playing for hours, I've studied your bets and other action. I made the call based on this analysis, the action in this hand and the cards. I think this to myself.

Some poker players (Some excellent players) stay inside the box too much. There are many reason to play a hand that might seem donkeyish, but are based on many sound observed variables.
