I'll come back to this thread this weekend, but I'll say one thing right now. In white collar jobs where there is room to negotiate, most people completely f this up and take offers that are far lower than where the company would have been totally willing to go.

Absolutely true. IMO, a minimum, a painless and reasonable expectation is 7-15% above the first offer.
