The problem is that the statistical analysis of baseball started 60 years ago, when Branch Rickey started evaluating players by OBP and SLG. It picked up steam with Bill James in the late 1970s, and has gone from there.

Basketball didn't really get started until a few years back. They're in the late 1970s.
