The
Vermont Statutes already make this provision and it has been held up through the
supreme court. In one
instance, a mother and father were forced to pay
alimony to a gentleman who was
suffering emotionally after he killed their
kidnapped daughter. The law stated that he was a
legal spouse of the
mother upon taking custody of the daughter, and that the marriage was legally
ended upon the
death of the daughter.
