When I started out as a rec player, I watched the WSOP with Moneymaker and Raymer. I never 'knew' about 2+2 and it took me about a year to get pokertracker, then probabaly 3 years after playing online I visited 2+2. I'd think i'm pretty typical in this progression, but i have no way to know.
I have friends to play 5-10 hrs a week online and don't use PT or read 2+2. They still don't understand bb/100 or VPIP and I think that's pretty common.
