In many many fields/companies, this is so wrong it's not even funny. Often, the person with the lower GPA won't even get an interview, so it's pretty hard to demonstrate your wonderful personality when no one is willing to talk to you to begin with. Furthermore, your argument assumes that people with higher GPAs are less sociable. The people who are doing the hiring know this is a myth.
