Raise now, Dude, and the reasons should be obvious:

Let's look at your "obvious" reasons.

a card can come on the river to scare him into checking, costing you action;
Sure, and she can check-fold most of these river cards after calling my raise, which gives me 2 bets either way.

raising now allows him to 3-bet a set or aces up
This is legit, although hands that she can 3-bet are a very small part of her range, considering my position and that she didn't 3bet preflop.

if he folds now then he was possibly check-folding the river anyway
This is absurd, and you know it.

if the board pairs on the river and you still raise, what are you doing against a 3-bet,
The same thing I'd do if I raised the turn then got check-raised on the river: call, and the exact same number of bets go in.

When she's got Ax - a large part of her range - I'm usually going to get 1, maybe 2 more bets out of her. Against random chumps who never fold, raising right away is obviously better, but against the right opponents it has merit.

I'm not necessarily saying that waiting is better, but I don't think raising right away is always the obvious play.
