Default Re: Bruins: 85:1 to win the cup @ 5 dimes. Your thoughts?

to think about:
will the bruins be buyers at the trading deadline?
do they have the goaltending to stand up through the playoffs?
Are they still owned by that cheapskate who is more interested in turning a profit, than in winning a Cup?

The Boston Bruins used to be my favorite team, in any sport.

Then the Bourque/Neely/Janney/Oates/Moog era ended, with 0 Cups.

GM Harry Sinden was criticized for not adding the one or two star players needed to get this team over the hump.

He was quick to point the finger at ownership, who didn't want to spend the money. Just make the playoffs every year, maybe win a series or two. That was the team's objective. That was the scenario that led to max profits. To advance further would cut into those profits.

When it became clear to me that the team wasn't trying to win, I felt foolish for supporting them. I turned my back on them. Maybe if owner Jeremy Jacobs ever dies, and the team gets moved into the hands of an owner who likes the idea of competing for a championship (like the guys who bought the Red Sox a few years back), I'll start watching the NHL again.

Until then, I wouldn't bet two cents on this team to win anything.

One more thing: Again, I don't follow the NHL any more, but since the B's were my favorite team, their scores on the bottom of the screen on ESPN still catch my eye. It seems to me that they never win a game. More often then not, the Bottom Line shows them losing. Are you sure that it's a good idea to back this team?
