It's pretty obvious most coaches and announcers haven't read the research paper published about going for it on 4th down and the relative EV of doing so.

Except that the EV is in terms of odds of winning the game. For the Niners, zero vs. zero is still, well, zero, and fans don't like getting shut out so just kick the field goal. At least one of the times.
