And they've mad a good deal of money off of it. What's your point?

My point is that while Nintendo use to dominate the console market, with the Gamecube they slipped into third place in a three horse race. Sure, they might have made money from the Gamecube, but more than likely Nintendo wouldn't have managed to stick around this long without their dominating market share of handheld consoles. They've made puzzling choices in the past and with each strange choice they've let their grasp of the market slip just a bit more. When developing the N64, they chose to go with a cartridge instead of a CD (like the Playstation) and many considered this a huge mistake. When the Gamecube came out they went with properietary DVD instead of with just DVD like the Playstation 2 and XBox. The average age of the console gamer is much higher than it once was; yet, they insist on keeping their console games only (instead of say, making it the brains of an entertainment center like 360 or potentially PS3). And one last thing I'll mention, because I think its important is that they also make their hardware difficult to program for (including limitations in memory, storage, and processing power) and so it takes a few years before developers really get the hang of writing for the system. Who knows what strange choices they'll make with Wii to make it less attractive to the majority of the console buying population?

Some of this may be true, but you are now beginning to argue something off topic which I didn't make in my initial point. I think a comparison between the GC and the Wii isn't fair. Alot of stupid decisions were made w/ the gamecube, namely no internet connectivity. They didn't have any true innovation and therefore were destroyed w/ competition that was superior in almost all fields. Except for that one thing I mentioned before, price. The wii is completely different as it shows some real innovation and has made vast improvements from the fundamental flaws of the Gamecube. Like someone said before the price gap between the systems has grown dramatically. PS3 and Xbox360 aren't video game systems, they are computers now, you could basically buy a computer for the price of them which is absolutely ridiculous and this is why the Nintendo will hold a large share of the market. Even if the systems appeal to me more than the Wii the price immediately turns me off, how many people can really dish out this money for a video game system. 700US, get [censored].
