Just thought I'd post a followup. The check was returned NSF. WPEX apologized, promptly sent a replacement which appears to have cleared fine, and offered to credit my account with any fees incurred. (As my only fee was $5 for a returned check, and I had the (mis)fortune to collect $225 this week in losing AA hands, I decided to let it slide.)

Given that my total rakeback is over $38k, (25k more than if was playing somewhere with 33% rakeback) consider me still a very satisfied customer.
