AFAIK you will be able to pick your starting day, and I'm pretty sure they will let you buy in to 1b after 1a has started, so if you want to play 1b just wait till then.

ALSO MY BIRTHDAY IS APRIL 19TH WHICH IS DAY1A AND IF YOU WANT TO KNOW IF I AM HAPPY THE ANSWER IS YES.
