The documentary said he saw delusions rather than voices. He believed he was on the cover of Time or something because the Pope was the 23rd Pope or something? and 23 was his favorite number, and he thought he was the Emperor of some country?
They also said back in that day, the mental hospitals would inject people with insulin causing them to go into total shock and have seizures. That was pretty crazy.
