i'd reply to the e-mail, quoting it, and say, "hey, i think you accidentally sent this to me"

he'll either say "oops" or he'll say "no it was on purpose" go from there

(what i'm saying is present it like you're sure it was an accidental e-mail... if you ask him directly if he wants you to go, he'll probably say he does, in which case you're stuck at some stupid work dinner)

(plus it sounds like it REALLY was a mistake and he has no hold over you, so you can tell him, wtf if you want)
