Without doing an exam, impossible to say - but by far the most likely cause is a smallish corneal abrasion. Keep your contacts OUT until your eye is back to normal. If the eye boogers persist beyond 24 hrs, go to an urgent care - they'll provide some antibiotic drops.

OTOH, if you have pain, rather than a foreign body sensation, or any change from your baseline vision, get seen sooner. You could have some significant badness such as herpes keratitis or iritis - something more significant.
