That is obviously a crappy situation for you to be in. However, I don't think that means students should be allowed to use cellphones on lunch etc. As I mentioned in my other post, there is no way for anyone to know if a student has a cellphone that is turned off and that stays in their pocket or bag.

There's an easy way to deter that though. Anytime a phone goes off in class = detention. Maybe a warning for the first offense.
