Suffering is conducive to gaining a great amount of merit. Those who suffer with the right intentions gain it, those who don't do not. We sometimes suffer voluntarily, and sometimes involuntarily. Our intentions in suffering are our own.
It is not stupid for a Supreme being to cause creatures to suffer if it is conducive to their greater good. So I don't know what point you are trying to make. And God does not hate people who are inclined to a certain sin like gays, but hates their actions when voluntarily undertaken, and even worse, those who try to condone their actions.
