if there is any decent amount of wind you must learn to water start. most beginners dont for awile and get stuck out in the water as the wind will yank the sailaway from you or you wont be able to haul it up.
when i went to aruba to sail i couldnt water start very well and they had to come out and get me a few times. so i fixed that.
