Default Belgariad game thread

This is the game thread for Belgariad. The rules and characters will be given in the this post, next post VR will open the game and unlock the thread. If you have any questions regarding the rules, you should privately contact VR or me so that we can answer them. If we feel something should be brought up with everyone we will do so. Please do not ask about rules in this thread.

Day runs from 11-11 Eastern. All characters with private day votes must submit them via PM, with a timestamp before 11:00 PM Eastern. Only the first PM sent will be valid. Voting cannot change day to night while either Brill or someone with private votes is alive. If all of these characters are dead we will switch to voting by majority with the time deadline.

In the game there are three private voters: Silk, Asharak (at the start at least), and Nachak. Mandorallen's vote counts double. So long as any of these four characters remain in the game we will not give vote updates at any time during the day. At night we will tally the votes made, including private votes and counting Mandorallen's vote as two, to determine who has been killed in battle (lynched). We will reveal the name of the dead, but not how many votes they had (Ce'Nedra, should she be alive, would get this in private).

If the four special voters are dead, we will return to the usual format and a majority will end the day.

While it may confuse us, Silk and Garion may vote during the day. These votes will be ignored by us and only the votes cast in private will be valid. In the case of Garion Asharak controls his vote, however if Asharak does not use his power (send us a pm) then Garion's in thread vote will count.

Here are the special characters:

On the good side:

Lady Polgara and Belgarath the Sorceror: These characters can talk with each other at any time via pm or im.. They can each act as either seer or angel any given night. They are allowed to see or protect anyone any night. Their "sees" are very important in the game as will be described below.

Silk: He is always working multiple angles. During the day, he may claim to attack whomever he wishes in public but this vote doesn't count; his actual vote is made in private. In fact, he actually gets two votes in private and can cast them on one person or two different people. Also, he is a master of disguise, so if Nachak tries to buy his vote, Silk will spot him.

Mandorallen: Whoever he attacks (votes) in public gets two counted toward them. Also, as he's such a powerful knight, if an attempt on his life is made at night it succeeds only with probability 1/2.

Garion: At the start he has very limited power. Asharak controls his mind and he has no special power. However, if one of the sorcerers sees Errand and he is alive he will turn into Belgarion, the Rivan King and become invincible. He will further be able to win the game by seeing his archnemesis. Each night he gives a name and if that name is Torak then the villager side wins if the evil side has not won the game in the next two days, three if Zedar is living (explained further below). Garion is NOT told if he has successfully found Torak. If Errand is not seen then this will not take place.

Princess Ce'Nedra: She has special power over the soldiers in the army. As such she receives a final vote count. This count does not say who voted for whom, merely how many votes each person got at the end.

Durnik, the Smith: If he is killed at night by the bad guys he is dead for one day. The following night however he is brought back to life. This only happens the first time, if he is killed again then he remains dead. Also, he does not know about his ability, he simply is told in pm that he is a villager. If he is night killed, he is told about his return to life the next day (after he would have time to make an "argh I'm dead!" type post). Once he is told about coming back to life he will remain dead (ie be mod rekilled) if he makes another post of any kind that day.

Barak: Barak knows the identity of Garion.

The Bad Guys

Asharak: This guy is able to influence Garion's thoughts. If he chooses, he can privately co-opt the Hero's vote and cast it as he wishes. There are restrictions, because the bad influence is in hiding. His power disappears if exercised openly. The other villains do not know who he is, however he knows who they are (though not their specific roles) and works on their behalf. However, he is not allowed to contact them. If in the unanimous opinion of the game mods he has outed himself in the thread he will be modkilled that night. If one of the sorcerers sees Errand then the bad influence loses his power.

Nachak: Can name up to two characters on the other side and buy their vote that day (i.e. secretly cast that person's vote to suit himself). He can not force someone to vote himself. However, if he chooses to corrupt two people, he could conceivably buy A's vote and cast it on B and buy B's vote and cast it on A. In any case, if he tries to pay off a special character above or a bad guy, their vote is not bought. Furthermore, if he tries to buy Silk's vote then Silk is sent a PM with his identity. Finally, if he is seen by a sorceror he is notified (though not given the identity of the sorceror).

Brill: Is a normal (evil) character at night. During the day, however, he is a skilled assassin. At any time during the day he may contact one of the mods and give a name. That person instantly dies (note, he should try to contact both of us to get it in asap) and the assasin runs off into the forest not to be seen again until the next day (his vote won't count, he can't post again that day, nor can he be killed). Using his assassin power is tiring however, so he cannot do so on consecutive days. In other words he can kill during the day but reveals himself so that he could be 'lynched' the next day (which is likely as he's a confirmed bad guy). If he tries to kill silk he dies instantly instead of killing him. He is not allowed to kill Errand.

Zedar: If Torak is in play and seen by Belgarion, Zedar can buy his team one extra day. Normally the Hero will kill Torak two nights after finding Him. Zedar, however, will sacrifice himself in two nights if Torak has been seen by Belgarion, and will take one player on the good side out with him (the dead villager will be chosen randomly among the ordinary villagers, if they're all dead Barak dies next, then the order goes Ce'Nedra, Mandorallen, Durnik, Silk, Polgara). In that case, the Torak and the other villains survive one extra day.

Two Grolims: Ordinary bad guys, but could become Torak as described below.

Torak: If one of the sorcerors sees Errand then a villain is converted to Torak. "Order of succession" is as follows: one of the two grolims (chosen randomly at the time), Nachak, Brill, Asharak (brought into villain chat if this happens), and finally Zedar if he is the only villain alive. If a character with other power (eg Zedar) becomes Torak they relinquish the power from their other role. Torak cannot be killed during the day. If He is chosen as the 'lynched' then all those on the hero side that voted for him die and whoever was second in votes gets killed. At night, if the hero sees Him then the village wins two nights from then if the bad guys haven't won yet, three if Zedar remains alive.

Mixed bag:

Errand: Is clueless (is told he is a villager, however he has the evil win condition and initially his vote counts as a tally for the bad side in winning conditions). The bad guys know his identity and are not allowed to kill him at night nor assassinate him during the day. If he is seen by one of the sorcerors and Garion is alive, he changes sides becoming a villager. If that happens Garion turns into Belgarion and Torak awakens. If he is seen after the hero has been lynched then he is converted to the village side. In either case, everyone in the game will be told that one of the sorcerors have seen Errand.

Winning conditions:

1) If a sorceror sees Errand:
-The good guys win if two days have passed since Garion has seen Torak and they have at least as much army power. As far as army power, we give 2 to Silk, Mandorallen, and Nachak, if Garion hasn't become Belgarion he has no power and Asharak has 2. Everybody else gets 1.

-The bad guys win if they have strictly more voting (attack) power than the good guys at the end of one day. Note: this may not always coincide with how many roles remain on each side.

2) If Errand or Garion are killed before Errand is seen:
-The good guys win if all the bad guys are dead.

-The bad guys win if their army is at least as powerful as the good guys'.

I sent the following PM to all villagers, Durnik, and Errand:

You are a villager.

The game will start Monday at 11:00 AM Eastern. As we limited participation to 22, and have several alternates, please confirm that you are in the game by responding to this message or posting in the thread. If you have done neither by 5:00 pm eastern you will be replaced.
