I apologize in advance for being a moron, but can you (or any one else) elaborate on this part? Are you suggesting to keep your main (tightly rubberbanded) money in your hand? Also, how does the throwing part keep you from getting robbed?

It's and old road gambler's "insurance policy" Have a roll of bills, all singles in your hand as you leave. Throw it when you get jumped, the attacker will leave you alone to get the $20 or so in bills, and you run off.
