Default Re: Discipline and poker

If your question is stricly about maintaining discipline at a poker table, I have an opinion.

You should go into each poker session in top form to maintain a high level on concentration. This means being in shape, being well rested, having eaten proper meals, not being on drugs or booze, being in a solid frame of mind (i.e. no back of your mind distractions) and generally being prepared for your upcoming session.

Think of an airline pilot. You are an airline pilot on an 8 hour flight and you are responsible for getting all the passengers safely and securely from A to B (all the passengers being you, and A to B being your start and end session times).

When you are prepared like this, you can maintain the discipline at the table you need to stick with your starting hand requirements, accept bad beats, observe your opponents, assess your play and in general be relaxed and alert.

You might also want to read a book called Zen and the Art of Poker.
