Default Re: So who\'s REALLY behind this anti-online gaming push?

[ QUOTE ]
Relatively short list of those who want offshore online gaming to be shut off in the U.S.:

NFL
NBA
Major League Baseball
NCAA
NHL

Indian casino lobby

World Poker Tour Enterprises

--

The NFL and NCAA in particular have been very aggressive in tag-teaming with the DOJ/FBI.

The NFL in particular was the "vehicle of choice" for the DOJ to go after the founders of NETeller.

One would expect the NCAA will be the "vehicle of choice" when the DOJ goes after the next "target".

(The two biggest sports betting events in the U.S. are the NFL Super Bowl and the NCAA Basketball Final Four. The other don't come close.)

The real target for the DOJ and the sports leagues have always been the sports betting websites.

Online poker is still "collateral damage" at this point.

That could change if World Poker Tour Enterprises decides to step up its little war against the likes of Full Tilt.

WPTE has made it very clear that:

1. It wants to dominate the online poker industry around the world.

2. The only way WPTE can dominate the online poker industry around the world is A) for governments to shut down "unlicensed" online poker in most major markets (U.S., Germany, France, Russia, etc.) and B) win explicit online poker licenses to operate in "emerging" markets, with Asia (and "Greater China") in particular.

Couldn't agree more. This is spot on.
