Maybe the debate about whether Marshall should've told Barney the time of the slap in advance was the writers' way of saying "Look how tremendously unconventional and brave we are; the comedy of the slap lies in how abrupt and shocking the act is but we're so bold as to tell you weeks in advance and then again in the title of the episode... and we're still gonna make you laugh."
Thoughts?
I could've done without the whole General Apathy and Major Boredom subplot.
