Default Re: I don\'t wanna start an \"ask me\" thread....

Sorry about this abortion of a thread. I was pretty much out of my mind when I made it,so I wasn't exactly thinking clearly. In all honesty, this isn't like mindblowing gossip or anything like that, it's just something that I'd never heard before and thought was extremely interesting given the Len Bias/DC background.

I had always heard that Bias was a great guy, who just got caught up with the wrong people in college when he started to hit the big time, which was punctuated by his cocaine OD. I've heard some people say that the time he OD'ed was the first time he used cocaine and this and that. Then I spoke with one guy (who is the same age as Bias would have been now), who went to the same high school and had a couple classes with not only Bias, but a man named Rayful Edmond III who you may have heard of.
Here's the Wiki page, but ill kinda sum it up:
[ QUOTE ]
Rayful Edmond III, (born 1965), was a notorious drug dealer who is largely credited with introducing crack cocaine into the Washington, D.C. area. At his peak, Edmond was alleged to have sold over 2,000 kilos of cocaine a week, worth tens of millions of dollars, in the Washington, D.C. area. Edmond controlled as much as 70% of the D.C. drug trade in the late 1980s.
Edmond was arrested in 1989 at the age of 24. His arrest and subsequent trial were widely covered by local and national media. Judicial officials, fearful of reprisals from members of Edmond's gang, imposed unprecedented security during the trial. Jurors identities were kept secret before, during, and after trial, and their seating area was enclosed in bulletproof glass. Edmond was jailed at the maximum security facility at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia and flown to the Federal Court House in Washington, D.C. by helicopter each day for his trial. Authorities took this unusual step due to fears that an armed escape attempt was almost inevitable due to the violent nature of Edmond's gang.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well anyways, the man who I had spoken to said that not only did these two know eachother, but were personal friends and could sometimes be find lighting up a crack pipe in the school bathrooms together. I had never heard of a connection made between these two until the other day, and coming from this area (and the fact that I was wasted) is a reason why I thought it was pretty crazy. Again, sorry to be a noob and forget that this thread even existed, but I think that's a decent tidbit right there. Thank god I didn't post this in OOT...
