Default Re: what are the 10 best rap albums ever?

NT, I don't agree with the list, but I'm pretty sure you're one of those backpackers who has this list of "classics" from the early 90s that everyone has to like or else they don't know true hip hop. Basically, lyricism snobs, and I feel the gap is vastly overstated especially comparing the mid to late decade. I can understand how some of the [censored] was innovative back then, but this [censored] is really egregious. Me, I prefer to look at album sales rather than listen to the opinions of self-appointed hip hop heads that populate message boards; there are usually good reasons that so-called great underground artists aren't moving albums and going plat. It's always popular to believe what is popular isn't good, and it's usually snobbish elitist BS.

I feel ya about people being elitists when it comes to listening to rap music, but that wasn't an example of it. That list was horrible.

Commercial success definitely isn't a measure of how good an album is. By that logic Illmatic and Reasonable doubt are worse then any album that's when double platinum.

Sales are about marketing to the masses imo.

Oh and lol at calling someone a backpacker because he likes Illmatic, Reasonable Doubt etc.
